Born on 5 November 1988 in Delhi
Father Mr. Prem Kohli and mother Mrs. Saroj Kohli.
His Father worked as a criminal lawyer and his mother is a House Wife.
He is the youngest in the family with elder brother, Vikash, and an elder sister, Bhavna
Virat while growing up was closest to his father
When Virat was 3 years old he used to pick up a cricket bat and ask his father to bowl at him
He started his schooling at Vishal Bharti Public School, Delhi
The 1998 Sharjah series with Sachin Tendulkar's memorable performance, had a strong impact on Virat. He started idolising Sachin
In the same year, the West Delhi Cricket Academy was created
His father took him to the academy where Kohli, a nine-year-old, was selected to part of Academy's first intake
His father also supported him to join the Sumeet Dogra Acedemy at that time
In ninth grade, his family shifted his school to Savier Convent in Paschim Vihar to help Virat's cricket practice
At the age of 13 he first played for Delhi Under-15 team in Polly Umrigar Trophy, and was the highest run-scorer. Next year he was selected as the captain
In July 2006, Virat was selected in the India Under-19 squad on its tour of England, where his team won both the test and ODI series
Virat made his first-class debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu in November 2006, at the age of 18, and scored 10 in his debut innings
His father's health started deteriorating at that time and he was bed ridden
On 18 December 2006, Delhi was playing with Karnataka with Virat unbeaten on the crease
On 19 December 2006, at 3am his father passed away due to brain stroke
That morning Virat came back to resume his unbeaten knock and scored 90 runs
He went directly to the funeral after he was dismissed
Virat - “I still remember the night my father passed away as it was the hardest time in my life."
His brother Vikash took over their father's business, which was not doing well due to his father's health and their family moved to a rented place
In 2008, Kohli captained the victorious Indian team at ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in Malaysia
Following the Under-19 World Cup, Kohli was bought by the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore for $30,000 (Rs. 16 Lakhs) on a youth contract
In August 2008, Kohli was included in the Indian ODI squad for tour of Sri Lanka
He made his international debut, at the age of 19, in the first ODI of the tour and was dismissed for 12
In November 2008, Kohli was included in the team for England series but was not given a chance to play
Later, he was then dropped from the squad for the five-match ODI series in Sri Lanka against Sri Lanka in January 2009
Kohli was selected in the four-team Emerging Players Tournament in Australia
The tournament was a turning point for him, where he became the highest run-scorer and got another chance to be selected for the Indian Team
In 2009 ICC Champions Trophy Virat was selected because of the injury to Yuvraj Singh, and won his first man of the match for scoring 79 against West Indies
He went on to perform well and became the fastest Indian batsman to score 1,000 runs and the fastest batsman to score 5,000 runs in ODI cricket
Kohli was appointed vice-captain of the ODI team in 2012 and Kohli was handed over the Test captaincy in 2014
He was awarded ICC ODI Player of the Year in 2012 and Arjuna Award in 2013
In 2013, Virat met Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma as they worked together for Clear Shampoo TV commercial
They become freinds and soon started dating. Their relationship attracted lot of media attention.
