Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket team skipper, continued his magnificent form in ODIs as he became the fastest player in history to reach 8000 runs during the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 semi-final against Bangladesh in Edgbaston..
Kohli, who has acquired the reputation as one of the best batsman in the world in an ODI run-chase . On the back of Rohit Sharma's 123 not out and Kohli's unbeaten 96, India booked their place in Sunday's Champions Trophy final against Pakistan at Kennington Oval. This was Kohli's 42nd ODI half-century.
South African captain de Villiers needed 182 innings to get to 8000 runs in August 2015, beating Sourav Ganguly's previous record of 200 innings. In 2002, Ganguly had gone past Sachin Tendulkar's mark of 210 innings, entering the 8000 club in his 200th innings.
Kohli became the eighth Indian and 29th batsman overall to complete 8000 runs in ODI cricket.
At the age of 28 he reached the milestone and become second youngest player to score 8000 runs.
Kohli also hammered two double hundreds in Tests over the last couple of months, becoming the first Indian captain to do so.
Kohli is widely regarded as the greatest ever chaser in limited-overs cricket and comparisons of his overall batting skills with Sachin Tendulkar have already started.
